TOP DEFINITION
An old Afrikaans proverb meaning "A farmer makes a plan." Widely quoted in English too, it extols South African resourcefulness – basically "we'll improvise a solution." It's said when someone finds a clever fix to a problem (especially with limited resources).
"Our power was out, but we rigged the generator with spare wire – as they say, 'n boer maak 'n plan," laughed Pieter, proud of their DIY solution."
