In DeFi (Decentralized Finance), this refers to providing liquidity or staking crypto in return for interest – essentially using crypto to 'farm' more crypto. It became such a fad that even outside crypto, people jokingly say 'I'm yield farming' to mean making passive income.
"What do you do these days? – Ah, mainly yield farming on some Binance Smart Chain projects. It's like earning rent on my crypto. (Meaning: How do you make money these days? – Mostly by staking my cryptocurrency in various DeFi projects to earn high interest. It's similar to earning rent using my crypto assets.)"
