Short for 'degenerate', used humorously to describe a trader who takes ultra-high risks on speculative bets (like YOLOing into meme coins). Many crypto enthusiasts call themselves degens when they gamble on shitcoins or meme stocks.

"Only a true degen would put rent money into a coin called PotatoToken hoping to 100x it. (Meaning: Only a totally reckless gambler would put their rent money into a cryptocurrency called PotatoToken in hopes of a 100x return.)"
